My recommendations for the best hotels in Tiberias are based on consistent guest feedback and countless stories from travelers. After years of staying at quite a few hotels in Tiberias myself, I’ve gathered a list of extra insights to help you plan the perfect vacation at the Sea of Galilee:

• Holiday Peaks: Major Jewish holidays like Passover (April), Rosh Hashanah (September), and Sukkot (September-October) lead to immediate spikes in both price and occupancy. If you’re visiting during these periods, I recommend booking at least 3-4 months in advance.
• Stay in the “Lower City”: If you don’t have a car, make sure your hotel is in the “Lower City” near the water. The “Upper City” is a very steep uphill walk that can be difficult in the summer heat.
• The “Holy City” Vibe: Tiberias is one of Israel’s four holy cities. If you visit on a Saturday (Shabbat), many restaurants will be closed. Plan your dining accordingly!
• Breakfast & Dining: Most hotels in Tiberias serve excellent breakfast buffets with a wide variety of options – often so generous that you’ll stay full until dinner. For this reason, choosing half-board (breakfast + dinner) can be a smart choice for many travelers. If you book breakfast-only, keep in mind that dining options outside the hotels along the promenade are somewhat limited, though there are plenty of excellent restaurants in the surrounding region.
• Sunrise over the Golan: The sun rises over the Golan Heights across the lake. If your room has a sea view, it is worth waking up early just once to see it – it’s magical.

• July & August Heat: The Sea of Galilee is 200 meters below sea level. It gets extremely hot and humid in the summer. • Water Shoes are Essential: The shore of the Kinneret is rocky, not sandy. To avoid hurting your feet while getting into the water, I recommend wearing water shoes.
• Boat Rides on the Sea of Galilee: Rent a boat or join a guided tour to enjoy stunning lake views and fishing. Spring and autumn are ideal for mild, pleasant weather.
• Explore the North Shore: Some of the most beautiful sites near Tiberias (Capernaum, Tabgha, Mt. of Beatitudes, Magdala) are located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee, about 15 minutes away by car. For the best experience, I recommend a half-day tour to see them all, visiting early in the morning to avoid both the crowds and the midday heat.
