It sits directly beside the Sea of Galilee at the northern end of the central waterfront, approximately 500 metres from the promenade and within walking distance of the marina, St. Peter’s Church and the Tomb of Maimonides.

The hotel has a private beach, landscaped lawns, a spa with a sauna and traditional hammam, a fitness room and an outdoor pool that generally operates from April through September. Complimentary onsite parking is another valuable advantage for travelers exploring the Sea of Galilee by car.

Best for: Couples and first-time visitors who want an upscale lakeside hotel without being isolated from central Tiberias.

Keep in mind: Rates are usually among the highest in Tiberias, and the outdoor pool is seasonal.

Galei Kinneret is a historic luxury hotel on the southern lakeshore, set slightly away from the busiest part of central Tiberias. Keep in mind: The hotel accepts guests aged 12 and above. Its private beach is seasonal, so confirm that it will be open during your stay. Parking is also subject to availability.

The Scots Hotel occupies a restored 19th-century hospital beside the Sea of Galilee. Its basalt-stone buildings, landscaped gardens and historic connection to the Church of Scotland give it a character that is difficult to find in other Tiberias hotels.

The property is close to St. Peter’s Church, the marina and the promenade but feels quieter than the surrounding city. Facilities include a spa, restaurant, seasonal outdoor pool and lakefront gardens. The best family hotels in Tiberias are designed around activities rather than quiet lakeside relaxation. Gai Beach Hotel is the stronger choice for direct access to the water and a large water park, while Leonardo Club Tiberias is more convenient for the promenade and provides meals, entertainment and children’s activities onsite.

Private Beach | Water Park | Family Resort | Spa

Gai Beach Hotel occupies a large property on the southern lakeshore, a short distance from the central promenade. Its main attraction is the adjoining Gai Beach Water Park, which combines a private beach with swimming pools, slides, children’s play areas, lawns and shaded spaces. Hotel guests receive complimentary entrance to the water park.

The hotel also has an outdoor pool and the Basalt Spa complex, which includes a heated indoor pool, large Jacuzzis, wet and dry saunas, a fitness room and optional treatments. Families can spend much of the day at the property without needing to arrange separate activities.

Best for: Families whose priority is swimming, water slides and direct access to the Sea of Galilee.

Keep in mind: The atmosphere is active and family-focused rather than quiet. Water-park operating hours and attractions may vary according to the season, weather and scheduled separate-swimming days.

Leonardo Club Tiberias is a large family-oriented hotel within walking distance of the promenade. Its facilities include a swimming pool, three water slides, children’s and teenagers’ clubs, live entertainment, a gym and family rooms. The pool is covered and heated during winter, while the water slides generally operate from April through October.

The hotel is normally promoted as an all-inclusive property, with meals, drinks and snacks available throughout the day. As of July 2026, the hotel is operating on a full-board basis rather than its usual all-inclusive plan. Check the meal plan shown for your dates rather than assuming that all-inclusive service will be available.

Best for: Families who want meals, entertainment and children’s activities included in the hotel experience while remaining close to central Tiberias.

Keep in mind: This is a large and energetic hotel that can feel busy during weekends and school holidays. The water slides are seasonal, and the current meal plan should be confirmed before booking.

💡 My tip: Choose Gai Beach if the water park and private beach are the main reasons for your stay. Leonardo Club is more practical if you want to remain close to the promenade and prefer having meals and organized activities available at the hotel.

Staying in central Tiberias is particularly useful for travelers without a car. The promenade, marina, restaurants and central bus station are within walking distance, making it easier to explore the city and connect with transportation around the Sea of Galilee. Caesar Premier and Emily’s Hotel are in the lower city near the waterfront, while Sofia Hotel is centrally located but involves an uphill walk from the promenade.

Promenade Location | Spa | Swimming Pools | Full-Service Hotel

Caesar Premier Tiberias occupies one of the most convenient locations in the city, directly beside the promenade and close to the marina, St. Peter’s Church and central restaurants. It is my strongest recommendation for first-time visitors who want to explore central Tiberias on foot while retaining the facilities of a large hotel.

The property has an outdoor pool overlooking the promenade, a gym and an extensive spa. Its unusual feature is a thermo-mineral pool filled with mineral-rich water and heated throughout the year. Entry to the thermo-mineral pool is restricted to guests aged 18 and above.

Best for: First-time visitors and travelers without a car who prioritize a central waterfront location and full hotel facilities.

Keep in mind: The hotel does not have a private beach, and its central location can feel busy during weekends and holidays. Onsite parking should not be assumed and must be checked before arrival.

Contemporary Design | Spa | Seasonal Pool | Lake Views

Sofia Hotel Sea of Galilee is located on HaPalmach Street in the upper part of central Tiberias. The Tomb of Maimonides is only a few minutes away on foot, while the marina, churches and promenade are approximately a ten-minute walk downhill.

Facilities include a full-service spa, steam room, rooftop terrace, restaurant and seasonal outdoor pool with views toward the Sea of Galilee. Complimentary parking is available, although spaces are limited. The hotel is a good alternative for travelers who want upscale facilities but do not need to stay directly beside the water.

Best for: Couples, spa stays and travelers with a car who prefer contemporary surroundings and elevated lake views.

Keep in mind: The hotel does not provide direct lake access. The return from the promenade involves an uphill walk, and both the outdoor pool and onsite parking are subject to availability.

Emily’s Hotel is a smaller property at 66 HaGalil Street, approximately 50 metres from the shore and a short walk from the marina and central promenade. The rooms have balconies overlooking either the Sea of Galilee or the swimming pool, and stays generally include breakfast. The hotel also has a seasonal outdoor pool, café-bar and limited complimentary parking.

Budget accommodation in Tiberias can still become expensive during weekends, summer and major Jewish holidays. Tiberia Hotel is the stronger choice for travelers who want a conventional private hotel room near the marina, while Tiberias Hostel offers the lowest-cost option and the most convenient location for using public transportation.

Central Value | Private Rooms | Free Parking | Near the Marina

Tiberia Hotel is a small property in the Old City at 64 HaNoter Street, approximately five minutes from the marina and within a ten-minute walk of the Sea of Galilee. Its central location makes it convenient for restaurants, the promenade and sightseeing without the rates normally charged by the larger waterfront hotels.

The hotel has individually furnished rooms and studios, including options with balconies and partial lake views. Some larger suites can accommodate families and groups. Complimentary parking is available, and guests can book breakfast and massage services separately.

Best for: Couples, families and independent travelers who want a private room, central location and better value than the large resort hotels.

Keep in mind: The hotel does not have a swimming pool or full-service spa. It also has no elevator, and onsite parking is limited.

Budget Stay | Rooftop Terrace | Communal Kitchen | Near the Bus Station

Tiberias Hostel is located in Rabin Square, only a few minutes from the central bus station, Old City and waterfront. This makes it one of the most practical choices for travelers reaching Tiberias by public transportation or planning to use buses to explore the surrounding region.

Accommodation includes shared dormitories and private rooms, all with air conditioning. Guests can use a communal kitchen, rooftop terrace, laundry facilities, luggage storage, billiards table and games area. Complimentary Wi-Fi and limited free parking are also available.

Best for: Backpackers, solo travelers, groups and budget-conscious visitors who value location and shared facilities.

Keep in mind: The atmosphere is social and informal, and the facilities are simpler than those of a conventional hotel. There is no swimming pool, spa or onsite restaurant.

💡 My tip: Choose Tiberia Hotel if you want the privacy and comfort of a conventional hotel room, especially when traveling as a couple or family. Tiberias Hostel is more suitable for solo travelers, backpackers and visitors relying on the central bus station.

• For travelers with mobility limitations: Examine the hotel’s exact position rather than relying only on its distance from the waterfront. Upper Tiberias is steep, and some smaller properties – including Tiberia Hotel – do not have an elevator.

Tiberias is generally the most practical base for first-time visitors because it offers the region’s largest concentration of hotels, restaurants and transportation services. It also provides convenient road access to Magdala, Capernaum, Tabgha, the Mount of Beatitudes and Yardenit.

Hotel prices and available facilities in Tiberias vary considerably throughout the year. Check the details of your room and booking conditions carefully rather than choosing a property based only on its headline price.

• Book early for weekends and holidays: Tiberias is popular with Israeli families, particularly during summer, weekends and major Jewish holidays. Availability can fall quickly, and rates may rise substantially. Check my guide to Israel’s Calendar of Events before choosing your dates.
• Check the hotel’s elevation: A property may appear close to the promenade on a map but still involve a steep uphill walk. Travelers without a car should prioritize the lower city and confirm the walking route before booking.
• Do not assume that “lakefront” means swimming access: Some hotels overlook the Sea of Galilee without providing a beach. If entering the lake is important, confirm that the property has a private beach and that it will be open during your stay.
• Verify seasonal facilities: Outdoor pools, private beaches and water slides may close during winter or operate according to weather conditions. Check the hotel’s current schedule, especially when traveling outside the main swimming season.
• Confirm your meal plan: Breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive packages can differ significantly. This is particularly important at Leonardo Club Tiberias, where the meal plan may change according to current operating conditions.
• Choose the exact room category: A hotel may advertise panoramic views even though only selected rooms face the Sea of Galilee. Look for an explicit “lake view” room category rather than assuming that every room has the same outlook.
• Check family occupancy carefully: Maximum occupancy, connecting rooms, sofa beds and children’s supplements vary between hotels. A room described as suitable for a family may not comfortably accommodate older children or several pieces of luggage.
• Confirm parking before arrival: Complimentary parking is often limited and cannot always be reserved. This is especially important on weekends and holidays when hotels are full.
• Review the total price and cancellation conditions: Check whether breakfast, parking and taxes are included. International tourists may qualify for an exemption from Israeli VAT on hotel accommodation when they present a valid passport and entry documentation, but the required documents should be confirmed with the hotel.
• Plan for Shabbat: Public transportation stops from Friday evening until Saturday evening, and some restaurants and businesses close. Hotel dining can therefore be particularly valuable during this period. 💡 My tip: A lake-view room is especially worthwhile in Tiberias because the sun rises over the Golan Heights on the opposite side of the Sea of Galilee. If the price difference is reasonable, request a room facing east and confirm the view directly with the hotel.
